Valve Removes Health Bonus From Backburner

Oh, glorious day. Valve must have finally listened to what the community was saying and have removed the +50 health bonus from the backburner. No more indestructible pyros running through entire teams.

Valve also has tried to allow crits even on servers where critical hits aren’t on. Sniper headshots, The Backburner, The Axestinguisher and now they have “fixed” the Kritzkrieg. Now that this is a viable alternative in match play, I wonder if anyone is actually going to use it.

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Team Fortress 2

  • Fixed team switches on Attack/Defense maps spamming the console
  • Fixed the Kritzkrieg not working on servers with crits turned off
  • Fixed some clipped localized strings in various in-game dialogs
  • Fixed several cases where files were synchronously loaded while the game was running
  • Fixed a shutdown crash in the material system
  • Cached rendering of item model panels to improve performance, in particular while weapon selection was visible
  • Added a gear symbol behind the health bar for Engineer buildings, in both target IDs and freeze panels
  • Players killing themselves will now give a kill credit to the last enemy who damaged them
  • Fixed grenades, rockets, and flamethrower being able to fire through grates at round starts
  • Fixed players being killed and creating ragdolls during team switches
  • Fixed various exploits and performance problems in CP_Badlands, CP_Well, and CP_Fastlane
  • Removed health bonus from the Backburner

Advanced Spy Techniques Howto

This video has been all over the net for about a week. If you haven’t yet viewed this tutorial however, it provides some great tips and techniques for being a more effective spy. While some of these are purely skills, some of the situational attacks may not translate as well to matches. Hopefully this will elevate my personal spy ability from horrible to terrible. Canalzone Beta 2 Released

Update! Beta2 of Canalzone has been released! The first beta spread pretty quickly in it’s one day of existence, spanning from France to Chicago to Japan. Please post any feedback, comments, bugs or suggestions you may have about the new Canalzone.

Canalzone Beta Released


Finally, the wait is over. After much wishing, hoping, praying and finally, the posting of a bounty, Canalzone beta 1 has arrived for community consumption. Thanks to VilePickle’s many hours of hard work, Canalzone has been updated with a new domination game mode and re-themed to fit into the world of Team Fortress 2. Now that the map is in beta, we hope players find the map as fast paced and exciting as we all did.

Blue Warehouse

For fans of the original canalzon from QWTF, there have been a few notable changes. First, there are no flags to carry around, there are 8 CP’s. Secondly, the scores do not go toward team points like they used to. In TF2 that would result with lots of silly dinging. Each team has a meter counting towards 100% and is reflected in the score meter both in the user interface and in the middle of most CP’s. The team who reaches 100% first, by controlling the most points is awarded the score for that round and the teams switch sides. A team may also win the round by capturing all 8 CP’s. There is no command center.

Canalzone Map

New players, upon seeing this map for the first time may be a bit confused. There are many control points and they are all named and numbered. Please review this overhead view of the map to get your feel for the lay of the land. This map was created to reflect the quakeworld version of canalzon, but the basic architecture and point identification is the same. Of note, there are no more secrets and all paths have been opened up between the CP’s.

This map need some beta testing to shake out any bugs that may not be apparent. This map is well on its way and Vile will more than likely receive the previously posted bounty.

Quakeworld Team Fortress Demos

Soulfly[DJedi] has been our resident demo archivist since last century. His harddrive contains a plethora of historically significant matches. A few people requested that sf try to upload his file to some webspace and after a few minutes sf had rar’d up his demo directory into an astonishing archive file coming in at a whopping 375MB. Instead of uploading it to a single point, sf threw together a quick DJedi QWTF Demos.rar.torrent file and uploaded it to mininova.

Don’t Mess With Seniors

They always ask at the doctor’s office why you are there, and you have to
answer in front of others what’s wrong and sometimes it is embarrassing.

There’s nothing worse than a Doctor’s Receptionist who insists you tell her
what is wrong with you in a room full of other patients. I know most of us
have experienced this, and I love the way this old guy handled it.

‘There’s something wrong with my dick’, he replied.

The receptionist became irritated and said, ‘you shouldn’t come into a
crowded waiting room and say things like that.

‘Why not? You asked me what was wrong and I told you,’ he said.

The Receptionist replied; ‘Now you’ve caused some embarrassment in this room
full of people. You should have said there is something wrong with your ear
or something and discussed the problem further with the Doctor in private.’

The man replied, ‘You shouldn’t ask people questions in a room full of
strangers, if the answer could embarrass anyone.’

The man walked out, waited several minutes and then re-entered.

The Receptionist smiled smugly and asked, ‘Yes??’

‘There’s something wrong with my ear’, he stated.

The Receptionist nodded approvingly and smiled, knowing he had taken her
advice.’ And what is wrong with your ear, Sir?’

‘I can’t piss out of it,’ he replied.

TF2 Wallpapers

Occasionally my saved RSS feed searches find some pretty cool collections of TF2 Wallpapers. Unfortunately a lot of the links are found on 4chan and have scrolled off of the board by the time I see the article and go check them out. I’ve managed to snag a set of pretty cool TF2 Backgrounds and have decided to include a slide show from my Picasa Album. My favorite is the Pyro Pyre, folks at work give me some strange looks when they see two monitors full of burning bodies.

TF2 Hitboxes

A big thanks to Avatar[DJedi] for finding this video on It captures some damning evidence between the difference of real hitboxes vs. visible player models. This could possibly be tweaked with some client-side prediction and interpolation settings, hopefully someone else will figure out the commands to fix the issue.
