STA: DJedi over Ghosts of Darkness

Tuesday, DJedi faced off against Ghosts of Darkness on Desert Fortress, a custom map with two middle points to keep the game interesting. Round 1 started off with a bang, GD had obviously done their homework and kept us on our toes. DJedi was able to score early after some hard fought battles to go up 2-0. GD was determined though and was able to close the lead with some precision sniping from [GD]reelz and full frontal heavy weapons guy action. GD was closing in on our lead at 3-2 and was on the verge of tying it up, but Hein and Hangy made the save by capturing B. DJedi pushed forward and won Round 1: 4-2 DJedi.

For round 2 we switched Tendril in for Hein, whose new 3rd shift job is totally awesome. For this round we corrected some of the mistakes we made in Round1 and everyone played tighter and with more intensity the 2nd round. Polar’s sniper rifle was on fire and his cover support held reelz and GD down while the rest of DJedi moved around the map. Communication and teamwork really came together and were able to execute our strategy at a high level. Round 2: 4-0 DJedi.

Great game’s GD, we look forward to our next battle.

Final Scores
Round 1: 4-2 DJedi
Round 2: 4-0 DJedi
Final: 8-2 DJedi over GD

Team Fortress 2 - I, Spy

Found this over on Youtube this morning. I have copied the authors comments because yes, I am that lazy today.

..just a little something I’ve been working on for the last couple of weeks in my time off (after being inspired by EvilDaedalus’s vid); I’ve spent far too much time playing as a Spy, so I thought I’d throw together another video covering a few of the tactics I use :)

How Not To Play Engineer

When I first saved this link for future watching I was excited to post another howto video similar to those done by EvilDaedelus. This parody video shows you how to do everything wrong the right way.

Surreal Visions

In a followup to a previously released trailer, The Doctor has put together a very nice compilation video of some pub action. It’s very well done and the bottle decimation on the last point of dustbowl is absolutely stellar. Good work The Doctor! This video is also available on YouTube in high quality format, but the vimeo embedded player looks nicer for this page.

SURREAL VISIONS - a spectacular TF2 compilation from The Doctor on Vimeo.

Here it is after long delay it’s finished. It’s a action compilation, filmed from different angles and some gameplay scenes to spice it up a little bit.

In this one i tried around alot with cameraangles. It has no specific plot it’s to show TF2 scenes from a different perspectives.

The demoman who wields the bottle is “[AD]Belink” a very good demoman buddy, it really pays off to heal a good demoman ;)

For the freefly section i had nice support from the Hampshire Heavies crew, many thanks for your help the scnes turned out really nice.

The Escapist on Team ROOMBA’s TF2 Griefing

The Escapist posted an article about the guys behind the very popular TF2 Griefing Videos floating around the internet. Through a series of e-mail correspondence, Kieron Gillen was able to compose an article that shows the production and human aspects of changing
multiplayer experiences during online play. It’s good to see that these guys do have some morals while they record hours upon hours of demos required to create their performance comedy.

Educated adults are far from a bunch of kids; it’s clear they’ve at least thought about the issues. They argue the griefs are short lived, and the players are in control of whether they play or not. “I recognize that I’m ruining someone’s fun, albeit temporarily, but jerks in an online videogame are just part of the package - ‘Game Experience May Change During Online Play.’ I’d like to think that everyone recognizes this by now, and I don’t feel particularly bad about it,” says Ryan.

Thanks again for the great match this week |RES|.

TF2 Update Removes Achievement Unlocking Hack

Looks like Valve realized their mistake of leaving the achievement console commands in the game. They released another patch today to eliminate the command and I would assume anyone who used it will have their achievements reset in due time.

doing-it-wrong.jpg

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Team Fortress 2 Client

  • Removed TF2 achievement console commands

Team Fortress 2 Server

  • Fixed clients being able to trigger sv_soundscape_printdebuginfo on the server
  • Fixed potential “nuke” exploit in rcon subsystem

Would also like to thank the readers of Planet HalfLife for visiting today. I couldn’t figure out why our traffic was so high today! They linked us on their front page.

CP_Stag Gone Gold!

Our good friend in REV6 and community architect, Vilepickle, has released his final version of CP_Stag. This map was a favorite of Q3F players everywhere and I’m glad to see it ported and updated for Team Fortress 2.

stag-1.jpg  stag-2.jpg

A blogger over at Bad Gamers had the following to say.

Vilepickle’s cp_stag reached final as expected and the minor fixes to the already quite polished b4 were wider corridors in the mid section in order to keep the demomen even more busy with their sticky bombs. If you don’t already have all his maps then go grab the Pickle Jar pack of 6 map delicacies!

TF2 Unlock All Achievements Hack

Wilson posted a link in our IRC channel this morning that shows how the more casual gamer can get all the new TF2 achievements without playing the game.

Maybe you only play occasionally and wanted to be able to be on the same level as other players (to be fair) or you simply never play as Medic and just wanted to see the weapons for a few rounds of fun. Either way, we won’t judge you.

STA: DJedi over RES on cp_desertfortress

Last night we faced off against |RES| on cp_desertfortress for STA. As lunk mentioned in his post last night, Valve released the long awaited Medic Achievements and Goldrush update last night at about 9:00 p.m. EST (30 minutes before the match), so both teams were eager to get to work on earning the achievements and unlocking the new medic weapons. Let me say that the Vampire Gun is totally awesome and I think its great that Valve is adding functionality to the game for free to keep it fresh and I can’t wait to see what they roll out for the other classes.

DJedi vs. RES cp_desertfortress r1
Round 1

After waiting over a half hour past the scheduled match time for RES to get their 8th member online, DJedi had to ask to start the round as we had a number of players who had to work the night shift and could only play the first round if we started immediately. This was disappointing as RES is always an excellent oppononent and we were looking forward to a great match and prefer not to have an unfair advantage. DJedi took the first two caps easily with |RES| down a man, before their 8th arrived. With an even lineup, things got more interesting as both teams traded frags and the battle see-sawed back and forth between A and B, with both teams struggling to capture both and push to the final control point. The sniper bullets of Polar[DJedi] and |RES|cides whizzed through the air as Wilson[DJedi] and |RES|Phaser traded rockets on the roofs and heineken[DJedi] and Tendril[DJedi] kept |RES| on the defensive with their ninja scouting. After a hard fought battle, moop[DJedi] and theSpawn[DJedi] pushed the final CP, with piping support from shoe[DJedi] to end the round in a shutout.
R1: [DJedi] 4-0

Round 2 saw theSpawn and heineken having to go off to work with gholam and Akira coming in. The first cap went to |RES| as they managed to divide and defeat the [DJedi] forces with a combination of speed and firepower thanks in part to a triple scout assault. [DJedi] rallied for the second clash, with lunk[DJedi] medicing and calling some key pushes. The teams seemed to swap control of the A and B CPs consistently before a coordinated attack on B finally resulted in [DJedi]’s control of both CPs. We pushed the final CP with an uber to tie the round up 1-1 and ensure a [DJedi] victory for the match.
R2: [DJedi] 1-1

Final Score: [DJedi] 5, |RES| 1

It was a great game when both teams fielded 8 players and cp_desertfortress proved a worthy battlefield. We look forward to playing |RES| again.
